Marti Johnson
Program Officer, Project Grants, Wikimedia Foundation

About me

Marti is a native Californian who grew up on her grandparents' dairy farm in northern San Luis Obispo county. After college, a year of service as an AmeriCorps volunteer led to a decade managing collaboratively driven resource conservation projects on California farmlands. She gained extensive experience with grants management as both a grantee and a grantmaker. Working in a politically polarized region, she specialized in developing meaningful collaboration among diverse stakeholders and played a lead role in coordinating a private-public alliance awarded California’s highest honor for environmental and economic leadership. She became a fan of the Wikimedia Foundation when she discovered MediaWiki software, which she used extensively to support open communication, innovation and resource-sharing in her region.

Marti has lived in New York City, London, Edinburgh, Seattle and for the last five years, San Francisco. In her free time, she enjoys backpacking, watching live theater, writing and throwing the "pandalope" for her five-year-old chihuahua-miniature-greyhound-mix.
